PRE-SCAN, the innovative ride comfort technology first seen on the F700 concept, will come into force in a few years(some say 2010) on series Mercedes-Benz models, such as the S- and CL-Klasse. The system works based on a series of sensors that use LIDAR technology(Light Detecting and Ranging), taken directly from military domain, in order to adjust the suspension stiffness according to the road physical conditions. The great thing about this system is that it can be integrated into ABC(Active Body Control) system in order to fully cooperate with it and offer a high-end ride comfort, in true Merc style. The PRE-SCAN sensors will be implanted into the headlights, manouevre that will require a tough measure:modifying the headlight design, to make room for this device, along the existing ones-light projectors and IR tube. Hopefully we won't see the terrifying headlights of the F700 prototype, that seem to be too alienish for a production car...
