FACTS & STATS

* The French Grand Prix in 1906 - staged near Le Mans - was the first automobile race called a "Grand Prix".
* With the exception of 1955, a Formula 1 Grand Prix has been staged in France every year since 1950.
* All in all, seven racetracks have hosted the event: Magny Cours was preceded by Clermont-Ferrand (four times), Dijon (five times), Le Castellet / Paul Ricard (14 times), Le Mans (once), Reims (11 times) and Rouen (five times).
* Since 1991 the French Grand Prix has had its permanent home at the Circuit de Nevers Magny Cours. The move to Magny-Cours was an attempt to stimulate the economy of the area.
* Previous McLaren winners at this Grand Prix include James Hunt in 1976, Nicki Lauda in 1984, Alain Prost in 1988 and 1989, and most recently David Coulthard in 2000 in a McLaren-Mercedes.
* Lewis Hamilton finished in third place in 2007 from second on the grid in his first ever race at the French circuit.
