OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
Stuttgart, Germany, Sep 16, 2008
The market launch of the new GLK-Class brings with it the launch of the GLK-Class Selection, a range of products whose distinctive design, high-quality, robust materials and confident colour scheme in the original vehicle colours underline the versatile personality of the compact Sports Utility Vehicle. The specially selected range includes casual leisurewear for the fashion-conscious, attractive accessories for outdoor activities and elegant items for shopping excursions to the city.
Like the distinctive and expressive Mercedes-Benz SUV, the GLK-Class Selection oozes confident style wherever it is seen – from sports and leisure activities in the great outdoors to outings to the world’s most elegant and hippest shopping boulevards. The robust, high-quality materials such as sturdy leather, tough cord, hardwearing polyester and heavy cotton were selected to meet both the functional and aesthetic everyday needs of the demanding GLK clientele. The angular shape of the new GLK-Class has also inspired the form of the lightweight umbrella, the key ring and the roomy shopper. Other typical style elements which feature on the products include the GLK lettering and the discreet but unmistakable silhouette of the vehicle, while the colours almond beige and como beige are based on the GLK palette for the interior and exterior.
The first highlight of the range, the iPhone® pouch, which was seen at
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, now has a new look with elegant black leather and meticulously embossed “GLK” letters. It not only looks good – it is versatile too, alternatively offering attractive protection for other Apple products such as the iPod® touch. The iPhone® can also be connected conveniently and securely on board the GLK-Class. The fully integrated solution with the Apple iPhone® holder from the Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH range allows the telephone and audio functions of the iPhone® to be activated according to choice. The functions can, as usual, be controlled conveniently using the multifunction steering wheel, helping to ensure that the journey is a safe one – the driver’s hands stay on the steering wheel, and the road and cockpit both remain clearly in view.
Stylish items for female customers
Successful career women are an important target group where the new GLK-Class is concerned, which is why various items from the GLK-Class Selection are aimed exclusively at female customers.
Close collaboration between Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH and the Austrian crystal specialist Swarovski resulted in the exceptional women’s top in sizes XS, S, M, L and XL. The two-layer top, in como beige and white, has a fashionable asymmetric cut and slightly puffed sleeves and the neckline is trimmed with high-quality “CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements” in white opal. A satin label at the side features a metal badge in the form of the Mercedes-Benz star.
Another stylish highlight of the GLK-Class Selection is the fashionable women’s cap in como beige made from 100 percent cotton with a herringbone weave. The cap features the Mercedes-Benz logo on a discreet label above the right edge of the peak.
There is also a matching key ring in embossed como beige leather with a high-sheen polished, silver-coloured brass bar. The front side of the bar features the Mercedes-Benz logo and the letters “GLK”.
Back to nature – but in absolute comfort
The outdoor products are designed to reflect the rounded lifestyle of the GLK-Class clientele. The black outdoor jacket, in high-quality nylon with lightweight padding and knitted cuffs, offers lasting protection against the wind and the elements. The microfleece inside the collar and the imitation leather flap on the breast pocket are in almond beige – a colour contrast which can also be found inside the GLK-Class. A discreet Mercedes-Benz logo appears below the neck on the back. The outdoor jacket is available in sizes S, M, L, XL and XXL.
Fashion-conscious customers will cut a dashing figure in the dark green
100 percent single jersey cotton polo shirt with woven collar in almond beige. The dark green letters “GLK” on the fabric panel across the front draw the attention to the new Mercedes-Benz model, and a discreet silhouette of the GLKis printed below the right shoulder. The high-quality shirt is available in sizes S, M, L, XL and XXL.
The colour combination black/almond beige can be found on the polyester fleece picnic blanket. The black, waterproof PVC coating on the underside means that it won’t matter if the grass is damp. A particularly practical feature: the 1.35 x 1.50 metre blanket can be folded up into a bag for carrying. The discreet embroidered logo on the flap ensures that this item, like the GLK-Class itself, acts as a statement for the Mercedes-Benz brand even off the beaten track.
Relax beneath cloudless skies on the folding camping chair with padded backrest. A useful detail: the right armrest features an integral drink holder. The chair, in high-quality black polyester, edged in almond beige, is supplied in a black carry bag and measures 87 x 55 x 96 centimetres when unfolded.
For sports activities the Selection includes a stylish American football. The matt black cult US sports accessory is printed with the silhouette of the vehicle and the letters “GLK”. The sporty line continues with the almond beige baseball cap in 100 percent cotton. Both the underside of the peak and the “GLK” symbol which alludes to the compact Mercedes-Benz SUV are in dark green. The band at the back for adjusting the size features a metal badge in the form of the Mercedes-Benz logo, while the buckle is embossed with the letters “GLK”.
Practical items for an enjoyable shopping trip
The roomy shopper, in 100 percent cotton cord, measures 42 x 40 x 19 centimetres and is ideal for a shopping expedition to the city. The bag echoes the distinctive looks of the compact Mercedes-Benz SUV both in the typical almond beige shade and in its angular design. The piping and nylon lining are dark green, as are the letters “GLK”, which are appliquéd on the outside pocket. Two bottle compartments and zipped compartments, a practical pocket for a mobile phone and a snap hook for keys help create a tidy, organised feel.
Like the shopper, the wallet, which measures 11.5 x 9.5 centimetres, is in almond beige pure cotton cord with dark green edges. Inside it features a removable coin compartment and various sections for credit cards, cheque cards and IDs. A discreet metal badge in the form of the Mercedes-Benz logo features on both the wallet and the shopper. The high-sheen polished, silver-coloured “GLK” key ring echoes the lettering found on the tailgate of the vehicle.
The umbrella, with its square, 115-centimetre wide, black canopy, edged in almond beige, has an angular look like the GLK-Class itself. The aluminium frame ensures that this 90 centimetre long rainy day accessory is particularly lightweight. The titanium-look handle features a black rubber insert with an almond beige silhouette of the GLK.
Exclusive collector’s items: the GLK -Class in miniature format
Replica models of the new GLK-Class are available for the display case or as an exclusive eye-catching feature for the desktop. Produced in the world’s most common collector’s scales, 1:18 and 1:43, and the popular model railway size 1:87, these prized miniatures are eagerly awaited new additions. Echoing the original vehicle, they come in two different versions – with off-road styling packageor with exteriorsports package – each recognisable by the different radiator grilles and by the metallic paintwork in the original colours.
The products which make up the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class Selection will be available from Mercedes-Benz partners and sales and service outlets from the beginning of October.
