REPORT: Mercedes-Benz eyeing cabrio model for the upcoming A-Class

We have tackled the subject of the rumored future A-Class Cabrio a number of times in the last two years. Lately, new information confirming the possible introduction of this version appeared. According to these hints, the car will go on sale towards 2014 and will use an insulated fabric roof as to save valuable kilos and space in the boot.

As all the variants included in the new compact class portfolio, the cabriolet will be developed on the MFA front-driven platform, which mates perfectly with the frugal, 1.6 to 2.0-litre diesel and gasoline engine, the efficiently-running 7G-DCT transmission and the new, specially-developed 6-speed manual gearbox. Probably, the on-road behaviour will be more sports-oriented compared to the standard A-Class version, highlighting the company's commitment to offer youthful, dynamic products in this constantly-growing market segment. There's no official word on this fact, but if the A 25 AMG is set to arrive in hatchback trim by 2013, then the Affalterbach-based tuner could consider building a spicy A-Class Cabriolet as well that might be out in streets by 2015.
