Generation shift: Last SL-Class of the R 230 series leaves the factory line at Bremen

Mercedes-Benz will officially issue the first photos and details on its new R 231 generation SL-Class in 10 day's time from now, specifically on 15th December. Following this moment, the German constructor will mark the world premiere of the luxury cabriolet at the North American International Auto Show at Detroit in January 2012, planning the market launch shortly after the European Geneva Motor Show in March. Prior to this series of events, the production process of the current R 230 model series came to an end after unit no. 169,434 rolled off the assembly line at the Bremen plant on 30th November. The milestone vehicle is an SL 350 in Iridium silver paint work, powered by the 315 BHP 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine. The car will be added to the automotive gallery of the Mercedes-Benz Museum, right next to the iconic roadsters that wrote the prestigious 60-year history of the 'Sport Leicht' range. All in all, beginning with 1989, more than 370,000 SL cars were produced at Bremen, according to company officials.
