Mercedes-AMG: future plans at a glance

The Mercedes-AMG GmbH sports division officially announced last week, at the LA Auto Show, the cooperation with the Italian motorcycle constructor Ducati. Following this agreement, there's been a lot of speculation concerning a possible takeover of Ducati by AMG in the years to come.

In such a situation, we could witness the birth of the first Mercedes-AMG-branded motorbikes, which is indeed fairly cool. Until then, the two companies stated that, in the first phase of the partnership, they will join their forces together in marketing and sponsoring activities.

Moreover, Olla Kaellenius, head of Mercedes-AMG, hinted at the possibility of launching several new small/compact sports versions below the C 63 AMG. For us all, this is hardly a big surprise as we previously wrote the Affalterbach-based high performance firm is planning to release AMG variants for the forthcoming generations of the A-Klasse and B-Klasse in the near future (see more:1,2,3).

In addition, he also revealed that new Black Series models are on the way, to be premiered in a short period of time from now on. We advise you to call them simply and straightforward: the SLS AMG Black Series and the C 63 AMG Black Series.

In the end, Olla Kaellenius highlighted that AMG will start a comprehensive weight-loss programme before implementing any hybrid technology and that it will remain committed to manufacturing gasoline-running powerplants, thus contradicting the rumours about the possible launch of a future diesel-powered unit. He also added that several new variants under the SLS AMG portfolio will be unveiled in the next years, with the Cabriolet version ready for the official unveiling at the 2011 edition of the IAA Frankfurt.
