The rush to become the trendesetter in the automotive industry is a never-ending business. After launching a new lineup of modular 'V' engines, there are rumours that Mercedes-Benz will also completely revamp its offer of gearboxes. Engineers are planning an exclusive and, nonetheless, crazy 9-speed automatic transmission, that is claimed to offer the most ultimate driving experience and, at the same time, ensuring a smooth and efficient ride, with no worry concerning the fuel consumption or the CO2 emission levels at all. The new gearbox is likely to make its debut on the future generation of the S-Klasse, set to be premiered towards the end of 2012, and will be joined with the new V6 and V8 powerplants we've mentioned before.
