September 1, 1958 – 50 years ago: The Mercedes-Benz 220 SE (W 128) with fuel-injected engine is unveiled. Although performance-enhancing fuel-injection technology has been around for some years already, it is now also introduced into large-scale production. The new variant commands a DM 1,900 premium over the 220 S with carburetor engine. A new diesel‑engined passenger car, the 190 D (W 121), is launched at the same time, fitted with a 50-hp (37-kW) four-cylinder engine.

September 12 – 22, 1963 – 45 years ago: Daimler-Benz AG demonstrated its class at the IAA International Motor Show: among the sedans there was the first Mercedes-Benz 600. The commercial vehicle line made an excellent impression in the heavy class with the new cab-over-engine truck, LP 1620. Model designations that were difficult to interpret and revealed little (such as the “LP 333” for example) were on their way out, to be replaced by abbreviations with transparent meanings, the first two digits of which referred to maximum gross vehicle weight and the last two digits to rated power.

September 13 – 23, 1973 – 35 years ago: At the Frankfurt International Motor Show, the New Generation of heavy-duty cab-over-engine construction site vehicles with permissible gross weight ratings between 16 and 26 tons make their debut.

September 3 – 10, 1998 – 10 years ago: At the International Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover, the Mercedes‑Benz Atego range expands to include a second line. The newly developed models for heavy-duty short-radius distribution in the weight category from 18 to 26 tons come onto the market later in the year. The Mercedes‑Benz Cito – an urban midi-bus with low-floor technology and diesel-electric drive concept – also celebrates its world premiere.
