Reduced exhaust emissions and diesel consumption through advanced technology and environment-friendly engines

Stuttgart/Singapur, May 16, 2008 - SMRT (Singapore Mass Rapid Transit) has become the first corporation in South-East Asia to use Mercedes-Benz urban buses featuring BlueTec 5 to provide local public transport services. This move marks the first adoption by the Asian market of BlueTec diesel technology, which Daimler has already introduced extremely successfully in Europe, and which offers significant reductions in diesel consumption and exhaust emissions. In ordering 66 Mercedes-Benz city buses which meet the stringent Euro 5 exhaust standard, Singapore's SMRT Corporation is assuming a pioneering role and setting new standards in South-East Asia. SMRT announced this initiative at the recent presentation of its "SMRT is green" campaign.

Mercedes-Benz became the first manufacturer to introduce this innovative diesel technology in trucks at the beginning of 2005, and in autumn 2006 in the brand's buses as well. About 160,000 Mercedes-Benz BlueTec commercial vehicles in service save more than 400 million litres of diesel fuel and preventing some 1,000,000 tonnes of CO2 from burdening the environment. Therewith, BlueTec provides a unique combination of economy and ecology and consistent efficiency.
