LEAKED: The new Mercedes-Benz GL-Class emerges on the internet prior to NYIAS 2012 reveal

As the NYIAS 2012 is around next corner, we were expecting 'leaks' to happen sooner or later. One of the stars at the Mercedes-Benz stand at New York is the new GL business class SUV. Compared to the outgoing generation, the X 166 model series has grown in overall dimensions: it's longer, wider and taller, it offers more room inside and it feels more robust. From every angle you look at it, the car looks powerful and astonishing.

The new GL-Class leads the G-Class tradition into the future: the strong, muscular, upright lines of the body are reminiscent of the iconic Gelandewagen. With the AMG Sports Package installed, the SUV looks beefy and solid thanks to the set of 20" alloy wheels with special design, the impressive  front air intakes and the beautifully sculpted rear bumper. LED technology is present for both the headlamps and the charming tail lights. If we enter the cabin, we will immediately spot the similarities with the ML. In fact, as it did in the past, the GL copies its brother as this approach is more cost effective than developing a new architecture.

The ML makes a clear statement on efficiency, but the new GL-Class is also following this path. Engine lineup comprises BLUETEC diesel and gasoline powerplants, ranging from 211 up to 435 (408?) hp. There will even be a true AMG choice with the introduction of the 525 hp GL 63 AMG planned for early 2013.

All the recent Mercedes-Benz breakthroughs in safety, technology and infotainment will make their way onto the new GL-Class. Other than that, the main features are shared with the M-Class, one of them being the complex ON&OFFROAD package, which finds the perfect balance between a thoroughbred athlete and a skillful hiker.

More official information will be issued these days - till then, take your time and surf through the photo gallery. Enjoy!

PREVIEW: The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class shows us its dynamic booty

Prior to the Geneva Motor Show starting next week on the 6th March, an unknown dealer from Hungary (this information is yet to be confirmed) thought it would be a great idea to leak an image from an internal brochure of the new A-Class onto the web, which happens to be celebrating the world premiere in just a few days at the European automotive salon.

While tracing the culprit and punishing him from breaking the normal press embargo could both be easy and tricky at the same time for Mercedes-Benz, for us, the fans, this is a good moment to know what to expect from the new premium compact model, even though the magic of the official unveiling may have been a bit dented already. After meeting the front fascia of the A-Class during a photo shootout in the Canary Islands, it's now time to face the rear end, which seems to bare some reminiscence from the concept car, but altogether it looks to have been rather tamed down. Given the exterior appointments, the photographed vehicle was probably wearing the popular AMG Sports Package, which successfully manages to give the little Merc a dynamic and powerful presence throughout the muscular protection bumper, the lateral air inlets and the black diffuser which incorporates the double exhaust pipes.

LEAKED: The new R 231 generation of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class breaks cover

And here we have it, ladies and gentlemen: the new Mercedes-Benz has managed to reinvent itself without losing the powerful heritage it caries. If one had doubts over the design of the roadster, it is now very clear it boasts a powerful and organic styling language highlighted through the aggresive one-slat front grille, the polygonal headlights, the clean profile and the curvaceous rear end - all in all, a very balanced, well proportioned and unmistakable presence. The elegant SL is lighter than the outgoing R 230 series thanks to the extensive use of aluminium, which decreased the overall weight of the car by up to 140 kilograms. The technologycal advances it brings further enlighten the SL's role as a decisive pioneer and leader in its class. At the start of sales, the roadster will be put in motion by two units: the 3.5-litre DI V6 with 306 hp for the SL 350 and the 4.7-litre TT V8 with 435 hp for the SL 500. Later in 2012, the SL 63 AMG with up to 571 hp will follow, whereas in 2013, the high end SL 600 and SL 65 AMG versions equipped with the new biturbo V12 engine with up to 640 hp are tipped for the official unveiling. What a nice way to celebrate 60 years of prestigious for the "Sport Leicht" lineup, isn't it? :)
